Zakho: The Beating Heart of Health in Iraq – A Cardiology Symposium at the University of Zakho

The College of Medicine at the University of Zakho organised a major academic event under the title “Zakho: The Beating Heart of Health in Iraq” on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

 

This significant gathering brought together leading cardiology specialists and medical experts from across Iraq to foster professional collaboration and promote advances in cardiovascular health nationwide.

 

 Leadership and Coordination

 

The symposium was held under the supervision and patronage of Prof. Dr Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed, President of the University of Zakho, and Prof. Dr Nofel Rashid Hussein, Dean of the College of Medicine. Distinguished members of the university community also attended the event.

 

This academic initiative was organised in collaboration among several national institutions, reflecting a high level of coordination between key academic and professional bodies, including:

 

 University of Zakho

 Kurdistan Board for Medical Specialities

 University of Duhok

 University of Al-Ain in Nasiriyah

 University of Mosul

 

 Program and Objectives

 

The program featured a series of seminars and lectures delivered by leading cardiologists and medical professionals from different cities in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

 

The main academic and clinical objectives of the event were twofold:

 

1. To identify and systematically analyse the key factors contributing to the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases among the Iraqi population.

2. To explore and define evidence-based approaches for the prevention, control, and effective management of heart-related conditions.

 

This symposium represented an important step toward strengthening medical research collaboration and enhancing the quality of cardiac care throughout Iraq.
